Want to Read saving…. Also, strangely enough, this book ends with Elizabeth being set free and some other girl being led into the castle, obviously to take the place of Elizabeth’s body. But after awhile, these scenes of torture get old and turn Bathory less into a flesh-and-blood character and more into a parody.

Before condemning Bathory, Thurzo tried to marry her! This book seems to be like marmalade, love or hate.

Editing was quite terrible for this book Even some of the torture scenes are interesting, in a dark sort of way. As to witchcraft and such practices, ANY woman at that time who either offended the church or who dared assert herself without a counsel of men, could be easily branded a witch. I would defently recommend this book to anyone interested in Elizabeth Bathory.
